We’re excited to share that Waniska’s research grant funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has been renewed!

Scientific research has made a lot of progress on the HIV/HCV/STBBI epidemic over the last 20 years. While it’s led to better health outcomes, programming and support, this work has ignored the social, colonial and historical contexts of Indigenous-related health problems and the unequal access to screening, diagnosis, treatment, care and social support.

To cover the gap Waniska’s new research grant means the team will continue to bring about the changes Indigenous peoples need by reframing the research and developing new approaches based on Indigenous beliefs and methods.

Moving forward, we will be using implementation science, which provides ways of thinking, tools and guiding questions to help move knowledge into action. Implementation science also helps us understand how change happens, what supports it and what gets in the way. The goal is to have actions that support wellness take root and grow!

We’ll also be expanding the communities we work with to include Alberta and British Columbia.
